About Us

The Alderbury and District Gardening Association was founded by a village resident in 1983. The initial meetings were held in the Methodist Chapel on Southampton Road, Whaddon. Memberships grew and the group relocated to the Alderbury Bowls Club. At the AGM in January 2020 the group adopted a new constitution and a new name: The Alderbury and Whaddon Gardening Club. The club is affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society, Hampshire and Dorset Federations of Horticultural Societies.

We are a friendly group of people, interested in our gardens and allotments and enjoy growing flowers, fruit and vegetables. We meet monthly in Alderbury, Wiltshire.  Our aim is to be welcoming and inclusive for all age ranges and abilities. Each month there are talks on various gardening, nature and wildlife subjects, along with some more practical sessions to learn new gardening skills. During the summer months visits are arranged to local gardens. In May each year the club organises an annual plant sale and in July it organises its Annual Village Show to showcase the many talents of members and those of the local community by exhibiting, in friendly competition, flowers, fruit, and vegetables they have grown and crafts they have made.
